ICE – Nazis? Gestapo? I think not.

For the last month, I have followed the news about the activities of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis Minnesota and elsewhere across the United States.  I have watched and read many stories and accounts presented by news outlets spanning the political spectrum.  I have watched coverage on every major cable news outlet and I have read stories and accounts written by people from the far left to the far right and every point of view in between.  The people who are protesting are upset that ICE is upholding the law by arresting and deporting foreign nationals present in the United States without permission – Illegal Aliens.

In many of these accounts I have heard ICE compared to the National Socialist German Workers’ Party – Nazis.  I find this interesting because as an avid student of history, I don’t think most people understand what National Socialism (Nazism) was and how it operated.

The people who are so strenuously opposed to ICE activities are allowed to protest, scream, whistle, film the ICE conduct.  They use profanity and confrontation, loudly calling the ICE agents Nazis and Gestapo.

Let me be clear here –if the ICE agents on the streets were truly Nazis or Gestapo members, the demonstrations, confrontations, profanity, filming and all the rest would not be tolerated.  The protestors would be arrested, interrogated, shipped to camps and likely executed.

That, dear readers, is how the Nazis dealt with opposition.  They arrested you, disappeared you, executed you, arrested your family, and interrogated those close to you. They suspended freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of the press.  None of this has occurred.

The United States is not an authoritarian regime and these protests are conducted by people who are engaged in a petulant “resistance” because their egos and feelings are bruised by their political defeat in the last Presidential election.
